On arrival at the ‘City of Angels’, please clear government formalities before being met and transferred to your hotel, where your registration materials await you. The remainder of the day is at leisure for you to explore this exciting city.
Sunday MAY 06 BANGKOK

This and every morning, breakfast is served at your hotel. Depart on a morning sightseeing tour. Begin at the 1780’s Grand Palace, visit the Chapel of the Emerald Buddha - the city’s most important and sacred wat (religious complex). Also, visit the Tower of the Nine Planets and the Great Throne Hall of the Chakri Kings.

Note: Foreign visitors must be properly dressed when entering any sacred temple. Shorts, T-shirts and halter-tops are not acceptable and admittance will be denied
Our motorcoach will drop you off at the convention center in plenty of time to get to your seats for the opening Plenary Session. Following the opening ceremonies, the now famous Hamden Rotary Welcome Cocktail Reception will take place. You won’t need dinner! (B, CKTL)

Sunday APR 29 JEJU, SOUTH KOREA
Jeju (formerly referred to as Cheju) is the capital city of the island of Jejudo, off the southern coast of South Korea. A volcanic island with a large crater at the top of Halla mountain in its centre, Jejudo is a popular vacation spot, known for its majestic waterfalls, welcoming, sandy beaches and is also known as ‘the island of the gods’. Jejudo is home to the Natural World Heritage site entitled Jejudo Volcanic Island and Lava Tubes. Look for the dol hareubang,‘stone grandfathers’ carved from blocks of lava. Scenic beaches, waterfalls, cliffs and caves lie in harmony, complemented by the mild weather.

Dalian boasts a unique geographical location at the southern tip of the Liaodong peninsular. Locals call the city the ‘Tiger’, referring to the fact that a bird’s eye view of the city gives the impression that the area resembles a tiger’s head.

Beijing’s 13 million official residents are a fascinating mix of old and new. Early morning taiqi (tai chi) enthusiasts, bearded old men with caged songbirds, and amateur Peking opera crooners still frequent the city’s many charming parks. Friday APR 27 ARRIVE SAIGON
Upon arrival at Ho Chi Minh City’s Tan Son Nhut International Airport, please clear government formalities before being met and transferred to your hotel. Later you will be taken on an exhilarating cyclo (Vietnamese rickshaw) ride through the alleys and side streets in “Cholon”. Visit Chinese temples, Cha Tam Church and Binh Tay Market before returning to your hotel. (Meals)
Saturday APR 28 SAIGON
Depart this morning on to the infamous Cu Chi Tunnels, an important Vietcong base during the war. After lunch at a local restaurant, return to Saigon to see the city’s highlights, beginning with the Reunification Palace. Afterwards drive to the historic center visiting Emperor of Jade Pagoda, one of Saigon’s most interesting pagodas. Finally, end up at the central Ben Thanh Market, where vendors display a vast array of goods and handicrafts, appealing to every taste. Return back to your hotel in late afternoon. (B.L)
Sunday APR 29 SAIGON – DANANG - HOI AN
Transfer to the airport for your flight to Danang. On arrival, you will be met and start touring in Danang. Visit the Cham Museum, housing probably the best collection of Cham art to be found anywhere in the world. Continue on to China Beach, made famous in the American TV series of the same name. Visit the Marble Mountains, consisting of five stone hillocks, once islands, made of marble. Each is said to represent one of the five elements of the universe. Last stop is at the Tam Than, located in Marble Mountain near Thuy Son. Late afternoon arrive to Hoi An and enjoy a walking tour of the old quarter. Return to your hotel after tour. (B.L)
Monday APR 30 HOI AN – HUE
From Hoi An journey north past Danang, passing Lang Co, a lovely stretch of beach curving outwards between a clear blue lagoon and the South China Sea. Continue along steep mountainous roads with spectacular views of the coastline before arriving in Hue, one of the most beautiful cities in Vietnam. It houses
ancient temples, imperial buildings and Frenchstyle edifices. Start your discovery with a visit to the Old Imperial City. It is a vast complex built in the early 19th century and modeled after the Forbidden City of Peking. Enter into an area of spacious courtyards and serene lotus ponds, and visit Thai Hoa Palace, the magnificently decorated reception hall, the Halls of the Mandarins, and the original Nine Dynastic Urns, among other sites. You will also visit the Dong Ba Market, a
local market near the Imperial City. (B, D)
Tuesday MAY 01 HUE
This morning enjoy a leisurely boat ride down the Perfume River, stopping first at the iconic Thien Mu Pagoda, an elegant seventiered octagonal tower which has become Hue’s most widely recognizable monument. Venture into the countryside around Hue to the Imperial Tomb of Tu Duc, the longest reigning Vietnamese emperor. Afterwards visit the Imperial Tomb of Khai Dinh, dramatically located on a hillside. Transfer to the airport for your flight to Hanoi. On arrival you will be met and transferred to your hotel. The balance of the day is at leisure to settle into your hotel and start exploring this charming city independently. This evening, after dinner at a local restaurant, enjoy the unique Water Puppets Show, an art performance originated in Northern Vietnam. (D)
Thursday MAY 03 HANOI
Depart this morning on a full day sightseeing tour of Hanoi. Although it is the modern-day capital of Vietnam, Hanoi still retains the mystery and charm of past centuries. Begin your day visiting the Temple of Literature, founded in 1070 and dedicated to Confucius. Continue to the miniature One Pillar Pagoda built by Emperor Ly Thai Tong on a single stone pillar to resemble a lotus blossom. Visit Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, where visitors can pay respects to the embalmed body of Ho Chi Minh. Continue through the park to Ho Chi Minh’s Stilt House. Also enjoy a ride on a cyclo exploring the Old Quarter with a network of narrow alleys and shop houses. After lunch, visit the Museum of Ethnology which brings to life the astonishing ethnic diversity in Vietnam. Late afternoon return to hotel for time at leisure. (B.L)

Thursday MAY 10 BANGKOK – SIEM REAP

Transfer to the airport for your flight to Siem Reap. Upon arrival in Siem Reap you will be met and transferred to your hotel. Later you will depart on a sightseeing tour of Angkor Wat, one of the wonders of the ancient world. Built in 802 a.d. at the height of Khmer Empire, it was once home to over a million people. Your tour includes visits to the stunning Angkor Wat and to shrines and buildings such as Preah Khan and the temple of Banteay Srei. Thursday MAY 10 BANGKOK - BEJIING
Transfer to the airport for your flight to Bejiing- China’s political and cultural heart. After clearing government formalities at Beijing’s Capital International Airport, you will be met and transferred to your hotel. The remainder of the day is at leisure to explore your surroundings. (B)
Friday MAY 11 BEIJING
Depart on a full day sightseeing tour of Beijing’s highlights. Begin at the sprawling Tiananmen Square. From the “Gate of Heavenly Peace”; once reserved almost exclusively to the emperors, enter the Forbidden City with its immense complex of red-walled buildings and elaborate pavilions. After lunch at a local restaurant, rive outside the city to the shores of the Kunming Lake for a visit to the fabled Summer Palace, built by the eccentric Empress Dowager Chi Xi. This evening enjoy a Peking

Saturday MAY 12 BEIJING
Drive outside of the city limits for a full day of sightseeing; tour the Great Wall – one of China’s most magnificent sights. Spend time walking the ramparts of this ancient wonder and enjoy memorable views of the surrounding landscape. Next, continue along the Sacred Path to the elaborate Changling Tombs - the largest and best preserved of the 13 Ming Tombs. In addition to the palace, there is an underground burial chamber. (B.L)
Sunday MAY 13 BEIJING – XIAN
Morning visit to the fascinating Temple of Heaven, an enormous complex where each winter solstice, emperors lead processions for rich harvests. Later you will be transferred to the airport for your flight to Xian - “City of Everlasting Peace” and China’s ancient capital for eleven dynasties. On arrival you will be met and transferred to your hotel. The remainder of the day is at leisure to begin exploring the city – site of some of China’s most significant archaeological discoveries. (B)

Drive through the countryside to see Emperor Qin Shi Huang’s tomb and his magnificent Terra Cotta Army. This vast collection of entombed life size soldiers, horses and chariots is actually just a part of the emperor’s project to rebuild a huge empire in the afterlife. Admire the over 6,000 hand-molded infantry in battle formation. Continue to the Provincial Museum, possibly China’s finest. Items of its unrivalled collections are displayed chronologically from Shang to Tang dynasty. You will also visit the Great Mosque; the oldest, largest and bestpreserved Islamic mosque in China. Transfer to the airport for your flight to Chongqing. Upon arrival at Chongqing Airport you will be taken on an introductory city tour of Chongqing, gateway to the Yangtze River set against steep mountains. After dinner at a local restaurant, you will be transported to the pier and embark on your Victoria Cruise ship for a three-night cruise on the mighty Yangtze, cradle of the ancient Chinese civilization. Wondrous views await you today as the ship passes through the celebrated Qutang Gorge and Wu Gorge. Thursday MAY 10 BANGKOK – PARO - THIMPU
Transfer to the airport for your flight to Paro. The views will be a befitting introduction to the spectacular beauty of Bhutan. On arrival you will be met and assisted then drive to Thimphu, the capital city (2500 meter / 8200 ft). If time permits, you will have sightseeing around the capital valley or stroll through the market on your own. (D)
Friday MAY 11 THIMPHU
Today you will visit the Memorial Chorten; drive to Motithang for a bird’s eye view
of the capital city. Continue to the zoo to see the strange looking animal known as Takin. Drive to Drubthop Lhakhang, the nunnery temple. Return to town for lunch at a local restaurant before visiting the other highlights of Bhutan. You will continue your drive south to Lungtenzampa to visit the Royal silversmith and the Bhutanese Paper factory. (B.L.D)
Saturday MAY 12 THIMPHU - PARO
Morning drive to Paro. Stop at Drukgyal Dzong for a breathtaking view of Mount Chomolhari. During the drive you will visit Satsam Chorten and Kyichu Lhakhang.
After lunch at a local restaurant in Paro, tour the National Museum of Bhutan, (Ta Dzong) with its wealth of ancient relics. (B.L.D)
Sunday MAY 13 PARO
Today, your trekking tour begins with a gentle ascent through undisturbed pine forests. The trail continues through an enchanting valley where you can view the Taktsang Monastery (Tiger’s Lair). Built in 1600s, this incredible monastery clings to the edge of a sheer rock cliff. The history states the Tantric mystic who brought Buddhism to Bhutan, landed here on the back of a flying tiger. Looking at the monastery, flying tigers doesn’t seem so impossible after all. Lunch will be served at the cafeteria. (B.L.D)

A deposit of $1000 per person should be made immediately to secure your space. Please make checks payable to “Hamden, CT Rotary Club Tours”. All prices in our brochure reflect a 3% discount for check payments only. If paying by Visa, MasterCard or American Express the discounted price will not apply.
The Price & What It Includes:
When traveling on one of our entire tour itineraries, including our air, we provide free transfers of persons and baggage between the airport and our hotels. Taxes and service charges are included as they relate to baggage at airports and hotels. Tipping is also included for meals and parties included in the itinerary except cruises and cruise tours. All prices in our brochure reflect a 3% discount for check payments only. If paying by Visa, MasterCard or American Express the discounted price will not apply. Please note that tour prices change in accordance with Rotary Registration increases. All rates are based on currency exchange rates in effect at this time (July 20, 2011). Should the value of the US dollar decline by more than 5% from its current value, TLG reserves the right to adjust the rates upward.
R.I. Convention Registration:
is included in your tour cost based on a Rotarian couple as defined by Rotary International. Non-Rotarian couples will be charged accordingly. Badges and documents will be delivered to your Bangkok Hotels. Costs for Host Committee special events are not included. TLG Travel Services and Rotary Club of Hamden Foundation, Inc. cannot accept responsibility for special event tickets or accuracy of spelling on Convention Badges.
Travel Insurance:
Tour Cancellation/Interruption Insurance is highly recommended. Ask your tour planner for an application.
Minimum Group Size:
All tour prices are based on a minimum of 20 passengers.
Changes to Tour Itineraries:
Hamden, CT Rotary Club Tour is entitled to make any changes, modifications or deletions with respect to the Tour Program described in the itinerary, if said alterations are considered necessary for the group’s comfort and welfare. If any hotels listed in this brochure become unavailable, comparable substitutions will be made.

Final Payment:
Payment of final balance in US Funds is due by January 31, 2012.
Not Included:
Airline taxes, passport fees, fees or surcharges. Any items of a personal nature, meals not specifically listed, telephone calls or incidental hotel charges.
Air Transportation:
Airfare will be booked at lowest available rates. In most cases, you will accrue frequent flier mileage. Should you not be able to accrue mileage we will notify you at time of booking. Air transportation quotes are based on economy class transportation. Should you desire First or Business Class transportation we will be happy to arrange it for you at a supplemental cost.
Land Only:
Should you choose a land-only option, you may forgeit any meet and greet assistance and roundtrip transfers from the airport to the hotel.
Baggage:
Most flights allow two checked bags per person not to exceed 50 pounds each. Neither bag may exceed 62 inches. Total dimensions of both bags are not to exceed 106 inches, plus one carry on bag that must fit in the overhead or beneath the seat. As these allowances may fluctuate between carriers we recommend that each person limit himself to one suitcase and one carry-on bag. Any excess baggage charges are at the passenger's own expense. Supplemental baggage insurance is highly recommended if you do not already have this coverage in a homeowner's policy. Please inquire for more details, as we cannot be held responsible for lost or damaged luggage or personal items.
Airport Taxes:
Some foreign airports impose an embarkation or departure tax, which cannot be prepaid, so therefore is not included in our rates. This tax, where applicable may be required to be paid in local currency upon applicable airport departure. Your Tour Escort will inform you when this applies.
Travel Documents:
A signed, valid through January 2013 passport is required for all itineraries. Any required visas will be included in your tour price. Application forms will be forwarded to you as appropriate. Please send a photocopy of picture page of passport with your deposit.
Cancellations:
must be made in writing to Hamden, CT Rotary Club Tours 111 Township Line Road, Jenkintown, PA 19046. From time of deposit until January 31, 2012 a $750 per person penalty will apply. From February 1- March 11, 2012 a 25% penalty will apply. From March 12-April 1, 2012 a 50% penalty will apply. From April 1 on a 100% penalty will apply.
Refunds:
Once your trip has commenced, no refund can be given for any missed transfers, sightseeing, accommodations, services, meals or voluntary absence from a tour.
Responsibility:
Each passenger making reservations for or participating in any of the Hamden, CT Rotary Club Convention tours understands and agrees to all terms, conditions, and limitations set forth in this brochure. In endeavoring to make arrangements with various persons, firms and corporations for the services and accommodations described in this brochure, the Rotary Club of Hamden Foundation. Inc. and/or TLG Travel Services act strictly as agents for the air carriers. In the case of air transportation, and agents for the tour operators in the case of all other services, TLG Travel Services and The Rotary Club of Hamden Foundation, Inc., as agents, shall not be responsible or liable for, and expressly disclaims any responsibility for, any costs, injury, expenses or damage to person or property which results, directly or indirectly from any act, whether negligent or otherwise, of commission or omission, including but not limited to delays of any person, firm or corporation, which is to, or does provide products or services in connection with these trips, including but not limited to transportation, (whether by land, sea or air) lodging, food and beverage, entertainment, sightseeing, luggage handling, tour guiding or escorting. TLG Travel Services or the Rotary Club of Hamden Foundation Inc. reserves the right to decline, accept, or retain, at any time or for any reason, any person as a participant on these tours. Not responsible for typographical errors.
